National Robotics Contest - ROBOCON 2018 & 2019

About ROBOCON

Robocon (short for Robotic Contest) is organised by Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU), a collection of over 20 countries of Asia Pacific Region. NHK, Japan had already been organising such contests at national level and also became the host of the first ABU Robocon in 2002. Since then, every year one of the member broadcasters hosts this international event and prepares the problem statement of the competition which all the teams work upon. In India, Doordarshan organizes National ROBOCON every year and the winner gets an opportunity to represent India at the international competition.

I have participated and represented my university NIT Surat being part of DRISHTI (Technical Club, NIT Surat) in the National Contests of 2018 & 2019.

ROBOCON 2018

Aug 2017 – March 2018 Team DRISHTI NIT Surat

Manual(Left) & Autonomous(right) OmniDrive Robots

  • Worked in a team of 20 and developed 2 Omni-Drive Robots(Autonomous & Manual) according to the problem statement.
  • Primarily contributed in writing software for autonomous motion using Line Following on a 3-wheel omni-drive through feedback from sensors like LSA line sensor, Gyroscope, IMU and Encoders.
  • In addition, developed manual control of the omni-drive using a remote Playstation controller and prepared hardware circuitry using GCB (General Circuit Boards).
  • Our team went on to rank 12th among over 107 teams that participated at the National Contest at MIT Pune.

    ROBOCON 2019

Aug 2018 – June 2019 Team DRISHTI NIT Surat

    Autonomous Omni-Drive Robot(Left) & 4 Legged Robot(Right)
  • As a Senior member of a 15-man team, oversaw tech aspects as well as managerial aspects such as procurement of electronic components and equipments.
  • Team Developed 2 robots: 4-wheel omni-drive and 4-legged robot.
  • Primarily developed the autonomous motion of the omni-drive using Line Following while secondarily also contributing to odometry module using wheel Encoders.
  • Developed the vision system based on colour detection from 2 camera interfaced and parallelly threaded on Raspberry Pi 3B for legged robot.
  • Our team went onto rank 13th all over India in the final round at the National Robotics Contest held at IIT Delhi clearing 2 rounds of Design Details Document and Video Submission among over 100 teams from different universities.
